Fragile X Indications

Do you or someone in your immediate or extended family have any of the following?

If so, you may wish to have testing to find out if you are a carrier of fragile X.

Carriers are at risk to have children with developmental delay, mental retardation, autism and/or attention problems and hyperactivity.

A diagnosis of fragile X?

   

Developmental delay, such as delayed speech or language?

   

Unexplained mental retardation?

   

Autism or autistic behavior?

   

Do you or someone in your immediate or extended family have any of the following?

If so, that person should be offered diagnostic testing for fragile X, which can cause several different and independent medical conditions.

 

Yes

No

Developmental delay, such as delayed speech or language?

   

Unexplained mental retardation?

   

Autism or autistic behavior or hyperactivity?

   

A woman with unexplained reproductive problems or infertility?

   

A man or woman over age 50 with intention tremor or ataxia (unsteady movements)?
